Technical Developer

Specific to the fashion industry developing garments from initial concept through pre-production, this role is the key point of connection between our internal teams and finished-goods vendor partners. The Product Developer owns sample execution, leads fit development, and manages day-to-day factory communication, while maintaining clean, accurate product data across the full lifecycle.

 

This role works cross-functionally with Design, Concept, Global Fit, Technical Development, Quality, Merchandising, Finished Goods Sourcing, Raw Materials, and Go-To-Market partners to deliver product that is technically sound, on time, and ready to sell. With a strong balance of creative problem solving, technical rigor, and operational follow-through, Product Development plays a critical role in ensuring our product meets the high standards our customers expect from Left On Friday season after season.


Core Responsibilities

Product Development & Execution

  • Own and manage style BOM initiation and maintenance for mid- to high-complexity styles from concept through production readiness

  • Build, manage, and maintain accurate BOMs, including sourcing inputs, trims, fabrics, and construction details

  • Lead product fittings, including preparation, note-taking, organization of feedback, and follow-up actions

  • Compile clear, detailed fit comments and development feedback for factories and vendors

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of fit work and construction, with the ability to assess and communicate improvements

  • Track development progress and ensure adherence to GTM milestones and delivery timelines

Data & Systems

  • Maintain data integrity across Flex PLM and other relevant systems

  • Organize and manage product lifecycle documentation, ensuring accuracy and version control

Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key point of contact for finished goods vendors, managing day-to-day development communication

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships and communication with vendors to ensure clear expectations and standardized ways of working

  • Partner cross-functionally to identify risks, solve issues, and optimize product outcomes

  • Track and conduct risk assessments and identify High Attention Styles (HAS) based on vendor, style complexity, and materials

  • Present and advise on development status, risks, and timelines at key product and milestone meetings

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners (labs, vendor co-creation) to explore innovation opportunities

  • Proactively research the competitive landscape through market research, trend analysis, and vendor showroom visits

  • Generate new, feasible ways of working to improve development efficiency and product quality

Leadership & Influence

  • Mentor and support team members through day-to-day execution and best practices

  • Enable alignment and influence across cross-functional partners at all levels

  • Communicate clearly and effectively through both verbal and visual formats

  • Build trust, alignment, and commitment by understanding multiple perspectives and driving toward shared outcomes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience; focused training in Technical Design, Product Management, or Product Development preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Development, Product Management, or Sourcing (8+ years preferred for senior-level scope)

  • Strong experience managing BOMs, colorways, sourcing inputs, vendor communication, and fit development

  • Hands-on experience leading fittings, organizing notes, and preparing factory-ready comments

  • Proven experience working with performance knits; experience with glue and bonding construction is a strong asset

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Proficiency with Centric PLM or similar PLM systems

Must-Haves

  • Familiarity with Pattern Making and/or 3D software is an asset

  • Strong applied understanding of the end-to-end product lifecycle

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Confident presenter who can engage and enroll cross-functional peers and leadership

  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and solutions-oriented mindset

  • Strong time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Comfortable managing ambiguity and driving clarity

 


Location: Victoria, BC Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote)
Authorization:
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Salary Band:
$75,000 - $80,000
