Pattern & Grading Technician


Job Description:

Reporting directly to our Product Engineer, the Pattern & Grading Technician will play a pivotal role in ensuring the fit, comfort, and quality of our swimwear and apparel designs. You will be at the forefront of the product development process, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to bring our brand vision to life. In this role, you will get to work with a small, brilliant team on one of the most desirable, fast growing DTC brands out there today!


Key Responsibilities:


Your main focus will be developing and modify patterns using pattern making software 

  • Experience using Gerber Accumark required

  • Importance in relaying a great attention to technical detail 

  • Must be able to prepare commercial ready patterns

  • Demonstrated application of grading skills required 

  • Experience building out block libraries an asset

  • Other duties and special projects will come up


Daily you will collaborate with the Design and Development team to:

  • Establish new silhouettes and brand fit standards by product type, category and end use

  • Ensure fit and construction standards are being met throughout the development process 

  • Interpret design sketches and concepts, translating them into accurate patterns and prototypes

  • Actively prepare for and participate in fit sessions with live models to assess the fit, drape, and comfort of garments, making necessary adjustments to patterns and samples

  • Troubleshoot fit and construction issues, offer innovative fit and construction solutions to achieve desired outcomes and look for opportunities to apply to existing styles 

  • Communicating fit comments, recommendations, and technical specifications to internal and external stakeholders as need, including overseas suppliers and manufacturers

  • Create and evolve block standards and construction techniques, maintaining block library


As a Pattern & Grading Technician, you will be:

  • Reporting on pattern progress to ensure deadlines are being met

  • Creating and maintaining detailed fit records, including comprehensive fit comments, measurement charts, photos as needed, to facilitate communication and ensure continuity throughout the product development process

  • Providing estimates of raw material yields during prototype development

  • Establishing and documenting how to measure guides for all product

  • Participating in cross-functional meetings and discussions to support reaching project milestones and deadlines, proactively identifying and addressing potential challenges or bottlenecks

  • Staying in touch of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to fit, pattern making, and garment construction, sharing insights and recommendations with the team to drive continuous improvement and innovation

 

 

The Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Engineering, Textile Technology, or related field
  • Minimum of 7-10+ years of experience as a Fit Technician and/or Pattern Maker in the apparel industry, with a demonstrated track record of success
  • In-depth knowledge of garment construction, fit principles, and sizing standards, preference will be given to applicants with experience in multiple garment categories, experience with technical swim and/or active apparel is a strong asset
  • Proficiency in pattern making software, specifically Gerber Accumarks and digital pattern manipulation techniques. Demonstrated ability to create patterns from scratch, using the technical information and reference garments provided
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator

Location: Must be based in Victoria, BC

Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days remote

Salary band: $70-75K CAD
