Spotlighting women who embody positive energy, strength and spirit.
A few things to know about LOF ambassador Mary-Sophie Harvey: she’s the youngest to swim trials at the Olympics at 12 years old. A 2x Olympian and 10x Worlds medalist. Making serious wins and having fun doing it.
How did you get into the sport?
I got into swimming because both of my parents were swimmers, and I really, really wanted to follow into their footsteps.
What's your advice to young athletes?
I love to be playful and joke around a little bit because I know, like, it's a serious sport. But the main reason why we're doing it is because we like it so much. Growing up, I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to perform for my family and my friends. I realized that that pressure was just in my head. Now when I go into competitions, I just enjoy the moment.
“The feeling of being in the water is like no other and I love that. It's just so quiet, so peaceful, and I just love being there."
— Mary-Sophie Harvey, Canadian Olympic Swimmer
What makes you feel like yourself in the water?
The feeling of being in the water is like no other and I love that. It's just so quiet, so peaceful, and I just love being there.
How do you feel in your LOF?
Growing up, I used to have a lot of body image issues. I think being in a sport where you're basically just wearing a swimsuit is challenging. But if I wear a Left On Friday suit, I feel powerful and I know it holds well, I can be as active as I want and I know it's going to look good no matter what. And that's really big.
